BGC NATIONAL MINISTRIES TARGET PEOPLE Our target for Second Half for Him ministries is those members and friends of Baptist General Conference churches who have achieved 50+ years of life and who desire to serve Him fully as long as God enables them. NEED ADDRESSED One of the most rapidly growing segments of our society is adults over the age of 50. But not all 50+ year old adults are alike! There are at least 3 categories (if not more): those 50-65, 65-80, and 80+ years old. The opportunities and potential for service through a second career or on a voluntary basis are a great resource for Kingdom ministry. We recognize that the ministry potential and needs of these three groups are not alike and that local churches need to understand the opportunities as it relates to each distinct group. VISION Our national Second Half for Him leadership team is determined to focus on the needs of local BGC churches to minister to and through gifted and experienced adults, while helping them to understand the distinctions of need and opportunity in the various life stages of those over the age of 50. EXPECTED OUTCOMES (2006-2008) 1. Every BGC church leadership team will understand the changes taking place within our society as it relates to the growing population over the age of fifty years so that they can strategize how they will reach out to those in need of the Gospel and provide meaningful ministry opportunities for and appropriate ministry to them. 2. Every BGC region will have trained coaches who can come alongside a local church so that they can enable them to develop appropriate ministry strategies to and through 50+ people. 3. Every BGC church 50+ ministry leader will have ready access through bgcworld.org to resources, ministry opportunities, and key events so that they can continually avail themselves to the latest resources for leading vital and effective 50+ ministries. 4. Every BGC church member and friend will be able to gather for an annual celebration and training event in conjunction with the BGC Annual Meeting so that they can be encouraged, refreshed and retooled for ministry in their own community. PLANNED OUTCOMES 1. We will coordinate our efforts through the district champions that have been identified and trained so that every district will be engaged in leadership development. 2. We will partner financially with each district to provide a training event for local church leadership teams in their district, so that local churches will be able to plan and embark on meaningful ministry to the three categories of 50+ aged adults. . 3. We will continue to build and utilize our email list of leaders engaged in 50+ aged adults so that we can provide information on resources and training opportunities and share stories of what God is doing in our churches. 4. We will deploy our communication strategy, using the BGC website, for coordinating the opportunities for ministry and training (such as ServTeam) that are available in our districts so that 50+ adults can participate in effective ministry on a broader level. 5. We will conduct an affinity group meeting for lay leaders at the annual meeting in Anaheim, California in 2007, so that we can cast a vision for ministry, share ideas and resources and fellowship together.
